I understood through Apex Heat's service just how much I can reduce my heating costs annually. This is definitely something I can recommend to my neighbors as well.

Jesse Nieminen, Espoo

A detached house in Espoo, built in 2020

Jesse owns a spacious detached house equipped with an air-source heat pump and an exhaust air heat pump. The house's heating system is already relatively energy-efficient. However, with today’s focus on air-to-water heat pumps and geothermal energy, Jesse wanted to explore whether he could further improve the energy efficiency of his home or reduce its emissions.

Apex Heat's Recommendations

The cost of investing in geothermal or air-to-water heating systems is driven up by the need to install a water-based heating distribution system. Jesse’s current heating system is already very efficient, and the house is well insulated, meaning that switching to a different heat distribution method would nearly double the investment cost.

If maximizing energy efficiency and environmental sustainability is the goal, a geothermal investment is definitely worth considering. This would reduce electricity consumption for heating by about 50–75%, resulting in annual savings of approximately €1,000 from the current heating cost of €1,500.

On the other hand, since the current system is already efficient and the cost of transitioning to a water-based heating system is relatively high, the payback period for such an investment would extend to around 15–20 years. From a purely financial perspective, the investment might seem expensive.

However, if the priority is minimizing emissions and maximizing energy efficiency, investing in geothermal heating is worthwhile, especially if Jesse plans to live in the house for a long time. Although the initial investment may seem large, it can also increase the resale value of the property, making it a financially sound decision in the long run.
